Sharpening Services
Shear & Scissor sharpening prices vary due to different processes, resulting in a range of work time.
Beauty Shears and high end beauty shears are either convex (Japanese) or beveled (German). With the hollow ground common element, extra steps are taken to sharpen the inside ride and ride line. This is done by hand. Convex shears are sharpened using a different process than beveled shears.
Colored Shears are my specialty. I use an Ez Vex sharpener specifically designed to protect and maintain colored convex shears.
Grooming Shears or Scissors are typically beveled, though some are convex. Convex grooming shears require a different process than a beveled edge. Some grooming shears are hollow ground, others are flat ground. Flat ground scissors are easier to sharpen.
Barber Scissors are typically a bevel edged and flat ground. Hollow ground barber scissors will be disassembled and the ride line worked. Flat ground scissors require less work to sharpen.
Household, Upholstery, Kitchen Scissors are always flat ground with a bevel, and require no dismantling. Easy and inexpensive to sharpen.
Clipper Blades are sharpened using a a Nebraska Blade sharpening machine. They are mostly hollow ground. Some blades require flat ground sharpening, completed by hand on a diamond hone. Ceramic blades are also sharpened on a diamond hone by hand.
Clipper blades are:
* Inspected for damage and function
* Dis-assembled
* Sharpened using appropriate method (hollow or flat)
* De-magnetized
* Spring tension adjusted
* Socket tension adjusted
* Cleaned and oiled
* Re-assembled
* Tested on fur for cutting
* Final cleaning
